Portable DAC/amplifiers tend to compromise because they focus on either a great digital OR a great analog section. But not both. The xDSD Gryphon is different. Like its mythical namesake, it is two beasts in one.
From the Ultra-Res digital stage with the Burr-Brown MultiBit at its core to the PureWave analog power section that pumps 1,000 mW and everything in between, a serious headphone is needed to tame the Gryphon.

In terms of wired connectivity, the xDSD Gryphon handles all formats using a hybrid Burr-Brown DAC chipset that is the same as the one used in our flagship £3,000 Pro iDSD Signature.

Power balance
The xDSD Gryphon uses our PureWave amplification circuit. It has 1,000 mW at 32 Ohms. With a maximum output of 6.7 V, it can handle high impedance headphones without breaking a sweat.
This is enough to drive all kinds of headphones. The 4.4mm Balanced is best for balanced playback. The 3.5mm S-Balanced will maximize the SE headphones. And your premium high-sensitivity IEMs are not forgotten - iEMatch will eliminate hiss.

XSpace adds the cavernous soundstage of recordings.
XBass II restores the missing bass of an open-back headphone or for recordings where you crave bass slam. Under XBass II, you can select 'Bass' and/or 'Presence' to add the correct upper midrange to your favorite recording.
iEMatch - is our patented technology that reduces the annoying hiss of a high-sensitivity headphone without losing any dynamic range.
For digital sources, users can choose between three custom digital filters via the screen menu: Bit-Perfect, Standard, and GTO (Gibbs Transient Optimized), each with a fine-tuning effect on the sound.
