Description

More from this brand

LUXMAN has consistently designed components for playing vinyl, such as our PD series analog players and our E/EQ phono equalizer amplifier series.

After a development period of 2 years, the LMC-5 is LUXMAN's first original cartridge in 40 years. In order to accurately and reliably read the musical information pressed on the record, we have chosen a combination of an aluminum cantilever with high tracking ability and a SHIBATA stylus to pick up a large amount of information with less audible noise.

To secure the pivot point of the vibration system, a low distortion structure has been realized by using the single-point "piano wire" support method. The power generation motor of the MC type uses a cross-mounted iron core with coils for the left and right channels symmetrically wound. By adopting a magnetic structure with a small field area, the penetration of external noise is reduced. Luxman has achieved significant reductions in size and weight.

Body structure and design

From experiences with closed housing designs, the coil and cantilever can act as a microphone, picking up reflected sound, reducing the housing, resulting in less sound coloring. To prioritize weight reduction and countermeasures against resonance, the housing is manufactured to a minimal design that still firmly supports the power generation motor. The minimized outer chassis has a reverse egg-shaped curve that suppresses unnecessary reflected sound and vibrations. The machined aluminum housing is anodized to deep red, the operating color of LUXMAN, and with the L marking logo laser-etched on the front, it subtly confirms the identity of LUXMAN. Each one is carefully assembled by a team of craftsmen, the best in Japanese cartridge manufacturing.
