Evolution in the 5000 line of Mark Levinson

The Mark Levinson No 5302 amplifier is designed to deliver all the performance and quality that one would expect from Mark Levinson. The technology that Mark Levinson uses in its larger power amplifiers has expanded the 5000 line to include a preamplifier (5206) and the No 5302 power amplifier. Both perform at a very high level. The pricing of this line is certainly not for everyone, but the performance of the Mark Levinson No 5302 is accessible to a wider range of customers.

Amplifier Mark Levinson No 5302

The fully discrete, direct-coupled class AB amplifiers get their power from an extra-large 1100 VA toroidal transformer with individual secondary windings for the left and right channels.

The voltage gain stage uses a topology directly descended from the acclaimed No 534 amplifier, coupled to an output stage consisting of two high-speed driver transistors operating in class A and six 260V, 15A output transistors. Two Thermal-Trak devices in a unique configuration ensure stable output bias regardless of load or temperature. Four 10,000 microfarad capacitors per channel, directly on the output stage circuit board, provide more than enough current. The amplifier therefore provides 135 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 270 watts per channel at 4 ohms, and 550 watts bridged @ 2 ohms. The amplifier also provides 550 watts in mono mode at 4 ohms.

Operation

The Mark Levinson No 5302 is equipped with Ethernet, USB, RS-232, IR input and 12V trigger input and output. The RS232 is intended to integrate the 5302 into home automation. The Ethernet and USB inputs are intended for importing and exporting configurations and software updates using a PC and standard web browser.

The industrial design of the Mark Levinson No 5302 feels robust. The 2.5 cm thick, bead-blasted, black anodized, solid aluminum front panels are machined and shaped to seamlessly transition into the slim glass display, which is itself recessed in a bead-blasted, clear anodized aluminum ring.

A light ring subtly accentuates the large aluminum standby button. The front is also equipped with cosmetic-grade solid aluminum handles and forty-two tri-grouped heat sink fins per side, robust beauty and function.
